A. Le Coq 64th Moonsund Regatta has reached Kõiguste, Saaremaa. | 14 Jul 21, piret.salmistu

The regatta is now halfway done as the Santa Maria Ruhnu - Kõiguste leg was already the fourth out of the total seven. Seems the Mediterranean weather is here to stay, and the winds do not stop playing tricks on the sails and sailors. On Wednesday morning there was enough wind for just a couple of hours and the ensuing lull stretched the 33-mile race into more than an eight-hour trial even for the bigger boats, whereas the last yachts arrived long after eleven at night. Luck and good strategy secured victory for Adelante, Amserv Toyota ST, Kvartet, Kaija and Bacchus.

In ORC I Adelante from Kalev Yacht Club with Andrus Luht at the helm managed to finish the race with a bit more than eight hours. With very equal times, losing to the winner for about 15 minutes, came Priit Tammemägi’s team on Premium and Jaak Jõgi’s Forte (both from Kalev Yacht Club) who were second and third, respectively.

The best team in Cruiser division was Kind of Magic sailing under Ilmari Absetz from Finland who have raced the Moonsund Regatta several times over the years.

For now, the overall leader with ten points in ORC I is Matilda 4 with captain Joachim Aschenbrenner and tactician Juss Ojala from Yacht Club Dago, although they finished fourth today. Adelante is second with 13 and Forte third with 16 points.

In ORC II we can see three strong teams competing for the podium places. Margus Žuravljov and Amserv Toyota Sailing Team from Kalev Yacht Club came in first after racing a bit more than eight and half hours.

“We would like to extend our gratitude to the organisers of the regatta who have brought us here to Kõiguste, which is a most wonderful harbour and a huge surprise to all of us,” shared Margus Zuravljov, captain of Amserv Toyota ST.

Three minutes behind them was Sugar from Pärnu Yacht Club with Marjaliisa Umb at the helm and Aivar Tuulberg’s team on Katariina II from Pärnu Yacht Club was third, coming in six and half minutes behind the winning team.

The best result in ORC II Cruiser division belongs to Jaan Tiidemann’steam on Mia from Kalev Yacht Club.

The overall leader with five points is Sugar, while Amserv Toyota ST and Katariina II both have ten points, being second and third, respectively.

In ORC III the winner of the race is Vasilii Alekseev’s team on Kvartet from Russia and they are also the overall leaders with nine points. Celia from Yacht Club Dago with Rauno Pielberg at the helm was second, losing to the leader with just 38 seconds. Less than a minute behind them was Margus Beljakov’s team on Liliann from Saaremaa Merispordi Selts who is second overall with 15 points, leaving Celia third with 17 points overall.

In ORC IV Kaija from with Noblessner Yacht Club, captained by Annika Malva outdid the others this time. Tarmo Polli’s Black Bird from Haapsalu Yacht Club was second and last year’s winner Julechka with Joel Kõiv at the helm from Toila Yacht Club third.

Overall leader in the group is Black Bird with ten points, Julechka is second with 19 points and Oleg Egipte’s team on Astrid from Kalev Yacht Club third.

The fastest Folkboot was Bacchus from Yacht Club Dago and Olev Oolup at the helm. Linda from Kalev Yacht Club, captained by Pertti Neero, was second and Argo Vooremaa’s Muinasjutukuningas from Kalev Yacht Club third. The overall situation is very tense in this class - both Muinasjutukuningas and Linda have 12 points and just one point behind them is Jonna with Mikk Köösel at the helm.

Heimon Kala Kõiguste circle will take place on Thursday and after that an award ceremony will be held for both the fourth and fifth races. On Friday the fleet will race to Hiiumaa where the regatta will also be concluded on Saturday, after one last race.
